Unitiima is an all-Filipino world music group whose sound emanates from percussion instruments profoundly mixing different drum patterns from Afro-Cuban, Samba to Filipino roots. The drumming methods provide a distinct groove true to its own Filipino brand of music. Unitiima was formed in 2005 and was originally an all-percussion group that evolved into a full-band; it performed its first gig during a poetry reading in Kolumn Bar organized by Lahi Productions and tested its waters by playing with reggae groups. At first, it is a fusion of reggae and rock until it has evolved to what it is now. True to its musicality, Unitiima is coined from an Ilokano phrase meaning "sound of the hands." The group creates not just art but a fast track to change the world through their music. Promoting Filipino roots, Unitiima sings about life, love, struggle, and victory. Although the members of the band grew up with different influences such as rock, alternative music and reggae, they are one in taking their individual musicality to a higher level, the world music way. The Philippines has a diverse culture, composed of influences from both oriental and western. The challenge is to uplift the Filipino roots music through a musical fusion. Unitiima uses wood crafted instruments such as the Djembe and flute, with guitar accompaniments and vocals. Unitiima chose the road less taken and are aware of its challenges since most Filipinos are driven by modern popular music rather than Filipino world music. Eventhough faced with a daunting task of promoting and educating Filipinos through music, they still embraced this responsibility wholeheartedly. Unitiima has supported groups like Yabang Pinoy, Youth Trip, RockEd, Partners in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia, International Day of Peace and the Philippine Cancer Society; it has also played in cause-oriented events namely: Rock for Guimaras, Rock the Riles, Rock the Rehas, and Barefoot Doctors Convention. Unitiima is also a staple of the Maharlika Sunrise Festival, Arts and Music Festival, Panorama World Music Festival, Fete dela Musique. At present, Unitiima volunteers for Hands On Manila, wherein the group teaches percussion to the children of Pangarap Shelter in Pasay. Neo-ethnic... Percussion... World Music... Fusion... Pinoy...
